The chute takes whole apples, whole tomatoes, long celery stalks and full carrots without pre-cutting, and a dual-blade auto-cutting auger does the work the knife used to. It self-feeds — you load it and walk away rather than standing there with a pusher.

The honest notes

• It's big. This is a counter-dominating appliance, not a tuck-away one. If your counter is short, buy The Rootside Press instead — that is genuinely the better machine for a small kitchen and it costs $100 less.
• Self-feeding is not hands-off. Very hard produce still wants a nudge. Beetroot and raw sweet potato are work in any press.
• More parts to rinse than the compact — call it three minutes rather than ninety seconds.

Buy this one if you juice for more than one person or batch a full week at a time. Buy the compact if you juice for yourself.
